Hogue Commission Must Report On MPs Who Willingly Participated In Foreign Interference

June 10, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Conservative Member of Parliament for Regina—Qu’Appelle and Opposition House Leader, released the following statement:

“After nine years of Justin Trudeau, Canada’s democracy is under attack from hostile foreign states. Last month, the Hogue Commission found that foreign interference had become so serious in the last two elections that it had “diminished the ability of some voters to cast an informed vote.”

“Last week, we learned through a National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) report that an unknown number of Parliamentarians have been “semi-witting or witting participants in the efforts of foreign states to interfere in Canadian politics.” Canadians must learn the truth about these shocking allegations.

“But thus far, Justin Trudeau’s government has failed to verify these findings or release the names of the Parliamentarians in question. This is unacceptable. It is imperative that, to maintain faith and trust in our democratic institutions and electoral process, the truth about these allegations is revealed.

“For this reason, Common Sense Conservatives have written a letter to Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Commissioner Hogue requesting that the Hogue Commission issue a finding of fact for each case in the NSICOP report where a member of the House of Commons of Senate of Canada have knowingly participated in foreign interference. It is crucial that the Liberal Government provide full, unredacted information so they can independently access these accusations.

“Canadians expect the Government of Canada to protect elections and democratic institutions from the coercive, clandestine and corrupt foreign interference threat activities of authoritarian states.
