Update on postal delivery issues in Flamborough and Glanbrook — March 4, 2025

Thank you to all the residents in Flamborough and Glanbrook who have contacted me and my office by phone and email to express your concern and frustration with unduly long delays in receiving mail locally over the past couple of weeks.

We share your frustration and know how much you rely on mail delivery in your daily life. While heavy snow and ice in February can create understandable delays for a few days, this is well beyond that.

My office and I have been in contact with Canada Post over the past five days. We have been told by Canada Post that weather and postal sorting station issues have led to smaller quantities of mail being processed in our area.

I should stress that the dedicated postal workers at the Waterdown Post Office, Binbrook Post Office, Lynden Post Office and all the community post offices throughout Flamborough-Glanbrook are extremely hard-working professionals. The problem does not lay there. They too are unfairly burdened by mail delays beyond their control at central sorting plants, exacerbated by weather issues, now past, in the middle of February.

In fact, the City of Hamilton recognized this postal issue yesterday and extended the due date the current municipal tax installment as notices were so delayed in the mail. For example, residents of Flamborough reported receiving their tax bill on February 28th, when they were mailed out on February 14th. This is an unacceptable delivery time.

These lengthy delays and the backlogs are a hardship for local small businesses and individuals awaiting cheques in the mail, as well as other important paperwork and bills.

Canada Post has encouraged residents to report concerns to their customer service team so they can action them more quickly through their system.

You can reach them at: https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/support.page

Their Customer Service phone line is 1-866-607-6301. It operates Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 11:00pm ET, as well as Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am to 9:00pm ET.

My office and I will continue to follow-up with Canada Post on a daily basis. We will continue to keep you updated as new information arises and the situation improves.
